In an effort to comply with increasingly stringent environmental and noise regulations on European job sites, Furukawa Unic has introduced the Unic UM325, an electric spider crane designed to meet the evolving demands for zero-emissions and low-noise equipment. The debut of the UM325 is a significant step forward in the construction industry, showcasing a trend towards more sustainable and efficient machinery.
The UM325 is equipped with a high-capacity lithium-ion battery pack that powers compact electric motors, enabling the crane to lift over 7,100 lbs (3,230 kg). A standout feature is its ability to draw power from the grid for prolonged operations, making it suitable for a wide range of lifting tasks. The adjustable track width enhances the crane’s maneuverability on job sites, allowing it to navigate through doors and fit onto smaller trailers with ease.
Designed for convenience in transport and operation within confined spaces, the UM325 folds up compactly. Operators can control the crane remotely for travel, setup, and lifting functions. The deployment of its outriggers includes auto-leveling software, ensuring stability and safety. Additionally, operator safety is continuously monitored by a RaycoWylie i4500 system. The crane’s flexible outrigger design and compact column allow it to operate close to walls and in narrow spaces, further enhancing its versatility.
Graeme Riley, CEO of Unic Cranes Europe, shared his confidence in the UM325 after receiving positive feedback at Bauma 2022, which prompted further development tailored specifically for UK and European markets. This model is Unic’s inaugural entry into the electric crane market, reflecting a broader industry shift towards sustainable construction equipment. This shift is driven by the commitment to no-drip job sites, adherence to low-emission zones, compliance with noise regulations, and the pursuit of ESG goals.
The introduction of the UM325 is poised to set a new benchmark in the construction sector. It symbolizes a move towards more environmentally friendly and efficient construction solutions, aligning with the growing demand for sustainable practices. As the construction industry continues to evolve, the UM325 represents a glimpse into a future where electric cranes could become the norm, shaping a cleaner and quieter job site environment.
