McLaren and Heim Launch £130M Rental Project in Birmingham

In a transformative move for urban housing in the UK, a powerful collaboration between McLaren Living, a prominent Build-to-Rent (BtR) and co-living developer, and Heim Global Investor, a residential specialist investment manager, has unveiled a £130 million project in Birmingham. This ambitious development, named Oasis on Kent Street, promises to deliver 456 high-quality rental homes in the heart of a regenerating city center. As demand for mid-market rental properties surges in key urban areas, this partnership exemplifies a strategic response to evolving housing needs. Situated in an area increasingly recognized for its cultural and social vibrancy, the project underscores a commitment to creating sustainable, well-connected living spaces. With an 11-story structure featuring one- and two-bedroom homes, alongside amenities like a gym and co-working spaces, Oasis aims to redefine rental living. This venture not only highlights the growing BtR sector but also sets a benchmark for future urban regeneration efforts across the region.

A Strategic Alliance for Urban Transformation

The partnership between McLaren Living and Heim Global Investor marks their second significant collaboration, building on the momentum of their ongoing Water Lane development in Leeds. Valued at £130 million, the Oasis project in Birmingham is forward-funded by Heim, with McLaren Living steering the development and Winvic serving as the contractor. This alliance focuses on delivering rental housing in prime urban locations, capitalizing on the trend of increasing demand for accessible, mid-market homes in city centers. Matthew Biddle, Managing Director at McLaren Living, has emphasized the importance of this trusted relationship, noting how the Birmingham development enhances their portfolio of innovative housing solutions. Meanwhile, David Peacock, Director at Heim Global Investor, pointed out the alignment with their mission to invest in well-connected, amenity-rich areas. With completion targeted for 2029, this project reflects a shared vision to transform city landscapes by prioritizing locations that offer strong connectivity and vibrant local environments for residents.

Sustainability and Amenities at the Core

At the heart of the Oasis development lies a strong commitment to sustainability and resident-centric design, aligning with Heim’s high environmental standards as demonstrated by their UK Residential Fund’s five-star GRESB rating. The Birmingham project will offer a range of internal amenities, including a residents’ lounge, a fully equipped gym, and dedicated co-working spaces, catering to the modern renter’s lifestyle. Externally, a landscaped courtyard and terraces will provide green spaces for relaxation and socializing. Located in a regenerating part of Birmingham’s city center, the development capitalizes on proximity to cultural hubs and social amenities, making it an attractive choice for urban dwellers. This focus on creating sustainable, livable communities not only addresses the immediate housing demand but also contributes to the long-term revitalization of the area. As both companies look ahead, their pipeline of BtR projects, including the anticipated completion of the 375-home Water Lane project in Leeds by 2027, signals a robust future for innovative rental housing in the UK.
