The Missouri Department of Transportation recently shared with Construction Dive the results of a year-long project proving that the use of intelligent compaction, infrared scanning and mapping software vastly improved pavement construction operations.
“We were looking for ways to assess quality in asphalt projects,” said Bill Stone, research administrator at MoDOT. “We are working towards better pavements that last longer and assessing the placement and monitoring of those pavements. We felt [intelligent compaction (IC) and infrared scanning (IR)] could benefit us.”
