Construction lost 20,000 jobs in May—its third consecutive monthly decline—but the industry’s unemployment rate improved from the April and year-earlier levels, the Bureau of Labor Statistics has reported.
The latest BLS monthly employment report, released on June 4, shows that all of construction’s May job losses came in the nonresidential sector. The May losses follow decreases of 5,000 in April and 7,000 in March, according to preliminary BLS figures.
