As the market reaches the late stages of the recovery cycle, experts don’t predict an impending downturn in the U.S., bolstered in part by increases in public-sector work, according to economic forecasts analyzed by ENR.
“We’re not expecting a recession in 2020,” says Richard Branch, chief economist at Dodge Data & Analytics, adding that despite a slowdown, the economy is “in decent shape.”
However, he notes that this assertion is “on the assumption that some sort of trade agreement is signed with China to forestall an escalation in tariffs.” Discussions between the Trump Administration and China regarding possible tariffs remain ongoing.
